Impact of Mobility on Entertainment Services’ Performance in Heterogeneous Wireless Environment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Emerging multimedia services are becoming very attractive for next-generation wireless networks. However, both limited quality of service (QoS) support and lack of bandwidth at the air interface restrain their wide deployment in current evolution of third generation (3G) wireless systems. Mp3-based entertainment applications, such as file downloading and streaming which are common nowadays in the Internet, are supposed to be very challenging and demanding services for nextgeneration wireless networks. In this paper we consider mp3 traffic delivery using two wireless access technologies, which are claimed to be used in next-generation wireless networks, wireless local area network (WLAN) and general packet radio service (GPRS). We provide our experiments under different user’s mobility patterns and compare the QoS of these services provided over wireless access with local area network (LAN) access technology. Additionally, we practically investigate specific issues arising in QoS assurance for both mp3 streaming and downloading services. 4G All-IP network, WLAN, GPRS, multimedia services, testbed, mobility patterns

Impact of human mobility on wireless ad hoc networking in entertainment parks
Ad hoc networks of wireless devices carried by entertainment park visitors can support a variety of services. In such networks, communication links between the devices sporadically appear and disappear with the mobility of visitors. The network performance strongly depends on how often they encounter each other and for how long the contact opportunities last. In this paper, we study the mobilit...
متن کاملConnectivity Support in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks
Recent advances in wireless technology and decreasing costs of portable devices strongly contributed to increase the popularity of mobile communications. Wireless communication and device integration have lead to the so-called nomadic computing (or mobile computing) where portable devices (such as laptop and handheld computers) allow users to access Internet and data on their home or work compu...
متن کاملSM-SIP: Seamless Mobility Management for Heterogeneous Wireless Networks
Next-generation wireless networks (NGN) and internet of Thing (IoT) become two leaders of designing mobile multimedia services. The deployment of these services using heterogeneous wireless networks will be the important factor that leads to profound change in the way that these services are delivered. Also, how these services will be managed is a real challenge. Consequently, Seamless mobility...
متن کاملSmart Access Points on the road for online gaming in vehicular networks
Online games represent one of the most important revenue sources for entertainment based companies and a challenging field in multimedia application research. With vehicular networks poised to become the new wireless frontier of the Internet, car passengers embody the next consumers that will be targeted by online game providers. Yet, the high mobility and heterogeneity of vehicular networks po...
متن کاملPerformance Optimization of Transmission Control Protocol in Heterogeneous Wireless Network during Mobility
Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) has shown serious performance limitations on wireless media. The main causes of these limitations have their root in mobility and link characteristics of wireless media. Heterogeneous environment of multiple radio-access technologies generally increases handover frequency, causing adverse impact on TCP flow and congestion control operations. In this paper, we...
